dReSs uP...

It has been a while since my Christmas post. Everything is still as chaotic as ever. But, a great friend told me recently that March is supposed to be the Optimism month. So, hopefully things will start falling into place.

Hence, my chosen card this time is 'hey there, chickadee'. Chickadee has been inspired by Papercraft Inspirations. It brought back memories when I was a little girl with my paper dolls. It reminded me that simple things in life can be suitable for all ages. Also, the added advantage here is I can design my own dresses now. So, there is heaps of fun and with it brings the optimism that we have the option to craft the things we like the way we like it. And at times, the littlest things in life can bring the simplest joy.

Chickadee has been made using scraps from previous projects, hence the perfect recycling way. :) Anyway, hope you like the card, especially the ideas behind it. Finally, which is your perfect dress and why? Mine is the red tartan dress because it is sweet, yet full of history. :)

Welcome, Optimistic March!

a gLooMy dAy tReaT...

Life has been crazily busy recently; work deadlines, house move, routine changes and others. Hence, my stick n' stuck had suffered slightly. Sorry, everyone. Hopefully, this newbie is a sufficient peace offering. :)

My card this week is 'ice cream parfait'. Weather in UK had been so crappy recently, that I had not seen much of Mr Sunshine. So, I decided to have a really colorful little treat, and desserts always bring a smile to me. Hope the treat will warm you up, despite the cold weather we are in now.

A cream A6 card with a stuck-on colourful stripy 'Twirl' card stock (by WMRK) formed the card base. A specially selected ice cream treat was inked (from Woodware stamps 'Ice Cream Parfait') and pencil-coloured on scalloped white card. The card was then distressed with Distress Ink 'Old Paper' to give a vintage look. The birthday wish was inked in Memento 'Tuxedo Black' and embossed for a shiny finish. The ice cream and birthday wish were then assembled and accessorised with Anita's gemstones, a raised cherry and cocktail umbrella. This was finished with light mint velvet scalloped ribbon, topped with silver glitters.

Isn't this just delicious? A treat for the gloomy day... :)

I was trying to find inspiration for a birthday card for a dear friend living in Texas. But inspiration was proving stubbon these days. So, I started throwing a few random things together. And voila... there appeared by buzzing birthday wishes. I liked how it appeared tan, dry and semi-wild... my impression of Texas. :)

The base cardstock is from the 'White Out' collection - 'Explore Rucksack' (by We R Memory Keepers - WRMK). Then on goes my 'Flower Patch' glitter lace (by WRMK as well). The lace required tremendous effort, as they were relatively flimsy and sticky throughout. But, managed it at the end.. phew!! Next, bare raffia (by Papermania) was tied around with a massive ribbon. And on top of this lied the birthday sentiment, which was stamped using 'Everyday Button Bits' by Papertrey Ink with Memento inks (Rich Cocoa, Bamboo Leaves and Cottage Ivy). The finishing touches included green and yellow gemstones (by Anita's) and last but not least, my embossed bumble bee (from WRMK 'Twirl' collection). Tada... :)

It worked out quite well, I would say.. Happy birthday, missy! Now to get it there on time.. Haha!

LoVe iS SimPLe...

Recently, we celebrated the wedding of Rachel and Alan, great friends who love simple things in life, but always fill life up with great adventures. To celebrate their union, we have this simple card - cream pearlised card with the corners rounded off, congratulations ribbon (by East of India) and french rose coloured embossed button heart sticker (by 'We R Memory Keepers' - Sweet Things).

Fabulous wedding, Rachel and Alan! Wishing you every happiness with great adventures ahead! Congratulations!

oPpOsiTeS...

Life is about opposites... up and down, good and bad, right and wrong, etc. So, this will be my concept this week. Two cards have been created using the same rubber stamp - Alota 'Girl with Doll'. Card 1 is about happiness, while Card 2 portrays sadness/illness. Come on and let's explore...

Card 1

This card had a black contrast background, subsequently accentuated with 'Nonsense - Jingle-Jangle Paper' from We R Memory Keepers (White Out Collection). Then embroidery threads (DMC 819 - light baby pink and DMC 899 - medium rose) were knotted at 2/3 of the card height. Alota, stamped on white card stock and pencil-coloured in warm tones, was then stuck on. She was also showing some sign of distressed by using Distress Ink 'Old Paper'. This was done to complement the 'White Out Collection' used. The finishing touches included multi-colour gemstones (by Anita's) on opposite corners and the sentiment 'Wishing you every happiness' adhered with 3D foam stickers. The sentiment was stamped using Heartfelt Basics (by Papertrey Ink) onto shiny card stock in Memento inks.

 Card 2

'Sweet Floral' (by Colorbok) and 'Scattered Clouds' (by We R Memory Keepers - 72 & Sunny Collection) were used as backgrounds. The 'Scattered Clouds' was trimmed with 'Pointy #1 Frame' (by Go Kreate). Alota, stamped onto scalloped white card stock and pencil-coloured in cooler shades, was then stuck on. The card was then finished with yellow satin ribbon (by Dovecraft), grey clouds (adhered using 3D foam stickers) and sentiment 'Hope you are feeling better' (by Papertrey Ink - 'Everday Button Bits').

So, what do you think? Opposites or not? :)

jUst pUrrFeCt...

This week, I am feeling adventurous, looking to try a new technique (i.e. colour-embossing). I was slightly apprehensive initially as there could be discoloration on the embossing folder if things were to go wrong. However, all went well and we have 'Just Purrfect' this week.

For the colour-embossing technique, the embossing folder (Cuttlebug 'Kimmy Luvs') was first inked in Memento Lady Bug and then embossed onto a white cardstock to give red-bordered loves. This was then framed by a deep brown cardstock to give a highlight feature. Next, a feline (by We R Memory Keepers - Tiffany Collection 'Purrfect clear stamps') was inked in Memento Tuxedo Black and pencil-coloured. She was then accessorised with multi-colour gemstones (by Anita's) around the cat collar and blue gemstones for the eyes. The feline was then stuck onto the embossed love frame with 3D foam stickers.

The card was assembled as follow: Pink/brown stripy ribbon (by American Crafts Premium Ribbon) to create a L-shape border, which was then accessorised with a 1.5 cm love brad and 7 gemstones (colour-coordinated with the feline's collar). The framed feline was then positioned in the middle, with a 'just purrfect' phrase adhered to the top as a final touch.

So, for a perfect one, with all my love...
