SwEeT tHinGs iN LiFe...

I bought some new toys last week and had been giving one of them some test run. It's 'Build a cupcake' layered die (by Papermania), as shown below. The beauty of this is you can mix and match and hence create your ideal cupcake. :)

'Build a cupcake' taken by Craft U Love

So, my first cupcake design is entitled 'My Sweet'. It has Sweet Blooms (by Colorbok) as the background, with 'My Sweet' spelt out using Sweet Floral punchouts (by Colorbok) which were then stuck onto lemon satin sheer ribbon (by Paperchase). I think this is now oozing with plenty of sweetness - which is purely coincidental. Didn't realise the materials were from a sweetness collection during card making. :)

I really like this die. Can't wait to use it again for other designs. Any suggestions? :)

SpEciaL - faBriC aCCessOrieS

Special this week...

Last Saturday, I attended a Fabric Accessories class at Jam Jar Beads, Sheffield. The teacher, Lucia, was fabulous - very creative and friendly. She explained the concept of making the accessories and then gave us the freedom to explore. Initially, everything seemed a bit scary - so many options, so many materials. Hmm... what should I make?

Ultimately, I made three pieces. Tada... which is your favourite?

1) Ocean beach bead necklace, with ribbon finish

Thank you YW for modelling the necklace! :)

2) Autumn wrap-around bangle

3) Cutesy vintage ribbon brooch

I really enjoyed the class and can't wait to attend others. Wonder what's next... hmmm... :)

a LoVE ShOwer...

Valentine's Day is tomorrow! It's a day of love and cherish. Sometimes I wonder - is Valentine's meant for lovers only or can this love be extended to our parents, siblings, family and friends?

Personally, we should show our love to the special people in our lives as often as we can. But most of us are often swarmed with responsibilities and continuously stressed, that we sometimes neglect our loved ones. So, perhaps Valentine's Day is here to remind us to love, cherish and be thankful for the loves that we have.

So, to celebrate Valentine's Day, let me present 'A Love Shower'... The white background had been embossed with Cuttlebug Embossing Folder (Kimmy Luvs), while 'Walking in the Rain' by Alota was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on white art paper. The sweet girl was further trimmed with Nellie's Rectangle Multiframe and stuck onto a heart red card. The finishing touch tied the love in with a checkered pink ribbon.

A close up of our heroine.. isn't she sweet? She had been painted with colour pencils, and accessorised with a bright yellow cut-out umbrella.

Tada!!! Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.. with all my love..

tHe rAbbIT yeAr - CNY TaKe 2

As promised, this is the second posting on CNY cards. The theme is still the same - cherry blossom flowers. However, the aim is to incorporate more CNY colours into the cards - mainly warm colours like red, orange, yellow and gold. The colour of red signifies good luck according to Chinese customs.

So, the first card has a red background with gold cherry blossoms, coupled with a off-white lace ribbon. The stem is a repeating pattern from Hero Arts 'Thank You Flourishes' stamp set. This card is very subtle - suitable for CNY, as well as other occasions.

The next card uses rhinestones (from WHSmith) as the pollen centers, with a yellow ribbon (from American Crafts Page Kit Baby) as a divider. It wishes the recipient 'gong xi fa cai' and 'happy CNY'. 'Gong xi fa cai' is a 'congratulatory and prosperity' wish on this joyous new year.

Last but not least, a landscape-oriented card with orange flowery background (by Dovecraft - Kate Knight 'Wild Blossom' collection). I think the green cherry blossoms with yellow gold centers stand out quite well on the chosen background. Love the finish look.. :)

So, that's all of my CNY cards for this Rabbit year 2011. Thank you for reading. Hope you like them as much as I enjoy making them. So, which is your favourite? Out of the 5 cards, I am torn between Cards 1 and 3. Hmmm... anyway, wishing you a prosperous and happy 2011. Gong xi fa cai!
